In case you haven't heard the Vancouver Field Hockey League has added a new division to the league.
This division will be called "Premier B" and will consist of Jokers (due to relegation from last year's Premier division)
and 2009/10's top 5 Competitive division (Div 1) teams along with 2 wildcards. It's anticipated that the level of play be
substantially higher than Competitive division last year as many of these clubs look to grow over the next few years.
Therefore, this year the VRC Jokers Men will be fielding teams in the following divisions:
- Premier B
- Competitive Division
- Recreational Division
Dates
As with previous years, the season will commence in early September with games every weekend -
on either Saturday or Sunday at variable times. The season ends in early March with play-offs continuing
until final weeks of March.
There is a midseason break from mid December until mid January.
Costs
Financially speaking, playing field hockey in BC consists of:
-
FHBC fees
Cost CA$66 and must be completed at
Field Hockey BC (FHBC) member registrations. You cannot take the field in regular season without a paid FHBC membership.
-
VRC Jokers dues
Cost is yet to be fully finalized but we expect they will increase a small amount
to cover increasing costs as agreed at the last AGM. They will be approximately CA$400 for a senior and approximately CA$270 for full time students.
-
League fines (for poor on-field behaviour)
The Vancouver Field Hockey League issues fines to teams when individual players
are given red cards ($25) and when teams collectively (over the course of the season) go over certain minimum "points" for disciplinary
cards. These fines are to be shared by the whole team and cost $200 and upward. The VRC Jokers do not condone poor discipline on the field
in any way. All personal and team specific fines will be payable by the player and collected by the team manager/captain.
